Food & Wine:-

The French take a lot of pride in their cuisine and Pau in particular has a large number of superb restaurants, the majority offering a very classic French menu; restaurants range from traditional bistro/cafes to Michelin star establishments.

You will find lots of good quality eateries around the locality set in picturesque villages and countryside.  The quality and range of food on offer is excellent with a good number of regional specialities to try. Tasty morsels to look out for are 'Jambon de Bayonne', saucisson, a wide variety of cheeses, 'Cote de Boeuf', a very tender rib steak, with bearnaise sauce, 'Magret de Canard', a must for those who enjoy duck and locally farmed 'Foie Gras' which is superb accompanied with a chilled glass of Jurancon wine.

Set between the Bordeaux wine region and the Pyrenees, the South West is also a traditional wine region, probably even older than its  mpre illustrious neighbour. The wines from the South West are of excellent quality and include Madiran which is full bodied red wine and Jurancon, which can either be a dry aromatic white or a sweet golden wine and is delicious serve chilled as an aperitif.
