The French are also very passionate about the Tour de France and the Bearn region is very proud of it's involvement. Every year the Tour comes through the Pyrenees and most often a stage of the tour finishes and then restarts the following day in Pau before heading for the mountains.
Some of the best salmon fishing in France can be found on the Gave d'Oloron while this is also excellent cycling, horse riding and hunting country.
The ski stations of the Pyrenees have benefitted from substantial investment in recent years and are less than a hour away for Winter recreational activities.
